NIPPON BEARING CO., LTD. President
Nobuhiko Fukunaga
In the current market environment, we are increasingly aware that competitors from Asia—particularly manufacturers based in China and Taiwan—are aggressively approaching our customers, resulting in an even more intense competitive landscape. These trends are not limited to Japan but are becoming evident across all regions, including Asia, North America, and Europe. Furthermore, equipment manufacturers that use our products are themselves losing projects to competing equipment manufacturers from China, Taiwan, and other parts of Asia. Under these circumstances, it is no longer sufficient to pursue incremental “improvements” along conventional lines. Instead, we are convinced that we must accelerate and execute fundamental “reforms” that relentlessly address customer needs.
With the objective of surviving and thriving amid this intensifying competition, we initiated a comprehensive structural reform program in fiscal year 2022. As of August 2026, this initiative will enter its fifth year. At present, we have positioned “Maximizing Price × Quality × Lead Time × Communication Capability” as our core theme and are working to further elevate the level of our structural reforms.
In the past, we held an overly optimistic assumption that if our quality remained stable, customers would choose us even when our price and lead time were not competitive. However, in today’s fiercely competitive market, maintaining a high level of quality is merely a given. We have therefore renewed our recognition that it is essential to refine and elevate all four elements—Price, Quality, Lead Time, and Communication Capability—to a consistently high level.
While maintaining high quality, we are challenging ourselves to enhance productivity from every possible perspective, thereby upgrading our competitiveness in both price and lead time. In addition to improving the lead time of finished products, we will also raise our performance to meet customer expectations in terms of lead times for drawing preparation, quotations, and delivery-date responses. Moreover, rather than simply promoting product performance, we are striving to strengthen our communication capability with customers through proposals focused on product compactness, labor reduction, overall cost optimization, and customized solutions. By maximizing Price × Quality × Lead Time × Communication Capability, we will clearly differentiate ourselves from highly agile Asian manufacturers. As a result, we are confident that the presence and value of “Made in Japan” quality will be further enhanced.
We are continuously exposed to various uncertainties, including domestic political instability, additional tariffs in the United States, and a global economic slowdown. However, rather than waiting for economic recovery or political stability, which are beyond our control, we will place self-transformation at the center of our agenda. By igniting the second engine of our structural reforms, we will proactively and decisively move forward.
